Essential Tips for Self-Care
When thinking about self care, it’s easy to conjure images of an at-home mani pedi and a face mask. In today’s digital age, many of us are living in a constant state of stress or fatigue - which can leave us feeling overwhelmed or burnt out.
As the saying goes ”You can’t pour from an empty cup,” So here are 5 things you can do this year to ensure you’re happy, healthy and thriving.
- Create morning & night time routines
Many of us wake up and just go through the motions. There’s something to be said for intentionally creating a morning routine that will set your day up for success. Grab a pen and paper and write down how you want your morning to flow everyday. Get creative with it and include elements that are not only good for your body but also your mind. Once you’ve mapped out your routine - stick it somewhere you see every single day.
- Stretch
If meditation isn’t your thing, stretching is a good way to get your body moving & clear your mind. Focus on where your body holds tension and then carve out some time in your day to stretch it out. It can be just 10-15 minutes, but your body will thank you for it.
- Read
Let the noise of the day drop away and pick up your favorite book. In today’s world we’re all magnificent multi-taskers, but sometimes our body’s need to rest and they can’t do that if our mind is still racing through our to-do lists. Let go of the “I should be doing something” guilt and let yourself get absorbed into one of your literary favorites.
- Do the “thing”
This might sound counterintuitive, but do that thing you have been putting off. Rip off the band-aid and get it done. Once you do, the weight will be lifted off your shoulders and you won’t have to carry around the mental load of the task anymore.
- Nature
It’s been said a thousand times but nature really is the best medicine. Being out in nature is important for your sleep/wake cycles and a million other bodily functions. If it’s hard for you to find time during the day to get out in nature, do yourself a favour and drink your morning coffee on your porch or balcony. The sunlight first thing in the morning will do wonders for your circadian rhythm - trust us.
